About the Bearer Plates
VUETRADE Bearer Plates are flat nail-on plates for joining timber by butting members together, for framework repair and for member or joint reinforcement. For a splice joint they are used in pairs, one on each face with equal length either side of the joint. 1.0mm steel, 80mm wide, in 120, 180, 240 and 300mm lengths, galvanised (cartons of 50 or 100) or 316 stainless (sold singly).

Features
- 1.0mm nail-on plate, 80mm wide
- Lengths 120, 180, 240 and 300mm (24, 36, 48 and 60 nail holes)
- Fix ONLY with VUETRADE 30 x 2.8mm connector plate nails in every hole: galvanised nails on galvanised plates, stainless nails on stainless (bimetallic corrosion weakens the joint)
- No nails within 56mm of the timber butt end or 14mm of the edge (AS 1720.1), so leave those holes empty
- Design capacity per PAIR of plates (VUETRADE, Category 1 joints, nailed as above), dead load only: 180mm J5 2.5 to JD3 6.5 kN; 240mm J5 5.2 to JD3 13.7 kN; 300mm J5 6.6 to JD3 17.3 kN. Higher figures for dead plus roof live or wind load are in the VUETRADE technical data; multiply by 0.941 for Category 2 and 0.882 for Category 3 joints
- 80 x 120mm plates are not recommended by VUETRADE for splice joints (they cannot meet the 56mm end distance)
- Exposure (VUETRADE area chart): galvanised for enclosed work and inland exterior work kept clear of fresh water, frequent wetting and drying and pool splash; on marine sites (within 1km of a sheltered coast or 10km of surf), in fresh-water contact or frequent wetting and drying, or around pools, use the 316 stainless version
