Roofing & Cladding Screws
Roofing and cladding screws with a sealing washer for fixing metal roof and wall sheeting to steel or timber.
About the Roofing & Cladding Screws
Roofing screws hold metal roof and wall sheeting down to steel or timber, with a sealing washer under the head to keep the water out. They come as cyclone multiseal screws with a 25mm sealing washer for steel, Type 17 cyclone multiseal screws for timber battens, and bi-metal 304 screws with aluminium seals, in Class 4 or X9 coatings with heads painted in COLORBOND steel colours. Choose the type, colour and size above; the guide below covers choosing a screw, coatings and the warranty.
Also called cladding screws or roof screws.
Features
- Bonded EPDM sealing washer
- Cyclone (multiseal) rated options
- Type 17 (timber) and metal drill points
- Class 4 and stainless
Applications
- Metal roof sheeting to steel purlins or timber battens
- Wall cladding on sheds and houses
- Cyclonic and high wind areas (cyclone multiseal)
Choosing roofing screws
- Cyclone multiseal (metal point): a universal 25mm aluminium sealing washer with a bonded EPDM seal. It suits all roof profiles, fixes roof sheet to steel frames, and is made for high wind areas and re-roofing. The assembly was static and cyclic tested at the James Cook University Cyclone Testing Station.
- Cyclone multiseal, Type 17 (timber): the same universal cyclone sealing washer on a Type 17 point, for fixing roof sheet to timber battens.
- Bi-metal 304 with aluminium seal: a stainless screw with a hardened drill point, for aluminium and stainless sheet. In very severe marine (C5) sites only 316 bi-metal is covered by the warranty.
- Fixing into timber battens? Choose the Type 17 cyclone multiseal here, or see the Type 17 screws page.

Pick the colour in the selector above. COLORBOND is a registered trademark of BlueScope Steel Limited.
Class 4, X9 or stainless: coating and warranty
Choose the coating for the site. Hobson's self-drilling screw warranty sets out the warranty period in years for each corrosivity category (ISO 9223):
- Hobson calls its category names indicative only, and where a site sits between two categories the higher one applies. Get professional advice on your site's category (ISO 9223 and AS 4312), or ask us.
- In very severe marine (C5) sites only 316 bi-metal is covered; X9 and 304 bi-metal are not recommended there. Extreme (CX) sites need Hobson's written confirmation.
- The warranty covers the structural integrity of the exposed head and washer, not the shank or the appearance.
Corrosion warranty periods in years. NR = not recommended.
| Environment | Class 3 | Class 4 | X9 | 304 bi-metal | 316 bi-metal |

Fixing roofing screws
- Use a hex nut setter in a screw gun with a depth or clutch setting.
- Drive the screw square to the sheet, so the washer seats evenly.
- Stop when the seal is compressed and snug against the sheet. Overdriving squashes the seal and can dent the sheet; underdriving leaves a leak path.
- Sweep the metal swarf off the roof at the end of each day: it rusts and stains the sheet.
