Key things to remember
The essentials from this document in plain words. Check the full document before you rely on a figure.
- Covers Hobson self drilling screws in Class 3, Class 4, X9 ProteXion, 304 Bi-Metal and 316 Bi-Metal. It warrants that the screws will not lose structural integrity through natural corrosion during the warranty period, counted from the date of purchase.
- Warranty years by ISO 9223 category (Class 3 / Class 4 / X9 / 304 Bi-Fix / 316 Bi-Fix): C2 urban or inland 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40; C3 moderate marine or industrial 10 / 20 / 25 / 25 / 30; C4 severe marine or industrial not recommended / 15 / 20 / 20 / 25.
- C5 very severe marine or industrial: 304 Bi-Fix 10 years and 316 Bi-Fix 15 years; Class 3, Class 4 and X9 are not recommended. CX (extreme) sites are not covered unless suitability was confirmed in writing before purchase. On a category boundary, the higher category applies.
- It covers structural integrity only, not looks: staining, discolouration, coating dulling and paint wear are excluded. Unless the cause is a manufacturing defect, it covers the exposed head and washer only, not the threaded shank. Consumer rights under the Australian Consumer Law still apply.
- Remedy is replacement or equivalent screws delivered to site; removal, labour and reinstallation are not covered.
- Not covered: installation against the written instructions (including not using a screw gun at the recommended RPM), over-tightening, contact with incompatible materials, missing maintenance, and storms, fire, sand or vandalism.
- Maintenance: wash the fasteners and nearby surfaces with fresh water at least every 6 months in C2 to C3 environments and at least every 3 months in C4 to C5, or when contamination builds up. Non-consumer claims should be made in writing within 90 days of noticing the defect.
Who it helps: Builders, roofers and specifiers choosing a screw finish for a coastal, industrial or inland site, and owners planning maintenance.
