Key things to remember

The essentials from this document in plain words. Check the full document before you rely on a figure.

  • Metal to metal fixing for corrosive conditions: crest fixing roof sheet (valley fixing with the short screws), sheds and pergolas.
  • Large 18mm sealing washer to support additional wind uplift loads.
  • Bi-metal 304 stainless with Hobson's R1000 hours protective coating, 3/8 inch hex drive.
  • Five lengths: 25 and 35mm in packs of 500, 52, 70 and 95mm in packs of 250.
  • Working pull-out load: 350N in 0.8mm G2 purlin, 1,300N in 1.5mm G550, 2,650N in 2.5mm G450 and 5,250N in 5.0mm hot rolled steel.
  • All pull-out figures are from laboratory tests on Hobson's DRiLLX screws; the working loads already include a factor of safety of 2.5 for steel.
  • Install with a cordless screwdriver at 2,200 to 3,000 RPM, keep firm, steady pressure while it drills, and do not overtighten. Impact drivers are not recommended.

Who it helps: Roofers crest or valley fixing sheet onto steel purlins in corrosive conditions.
