Lifting Hooks (Grade 80 & 100)
Grade 80 and Grade 100 lifting hooks: safety (self-locking) hooks, sling hooks, grab hooks and swivel latch hooks, each with a clevis for chain or an eye for a link or sling, for chain from 6 to 20mm (Grade 80) and up to 26mm (Grade 100).
About the Lifting Hooks (Grade 80 & 100)
Lifting hooks go on the end of chain slings and lifting gear for crane and crane truck lifts, and grab hooks shorten and adjust a chain sling. They are Grade 80 and Grade 100 to AS 3776: safety (self-locking) hooks, sling hooks with a latch, grab hooks and swivel latch hooks, with a clevis for chain or an eye for a link or sling, for 6 to 20mm chain (Grade 80) and up to 26mm (Grade 100). Each is marked with its WLL and a trace code. Choose the hook and size above; the guide below covers which hook to use and the WLL by chain size.

Which lifting hook?
- Safety hook (self-locking): the latch locks closed under load, so the hook cannot open accidentally.
- Sling hook with latch: a wide throat with a self-closing latch for slings and fittings.
- Grab hook: a narrow throat that grips a chain link, for shortening and adjusting chain slings.
- Swivel latch hook: swivels so the hook can be lined up with the load before lifting, with a self-locking latch.
- Clevis or eye: a clevis pins straight onto chain of the matching size and grade; an eye takes a connecting link, shackle or sling.
Grade 80 hook WLL by chain size
Match the hook to the chain size and grade. Every hook is marked with its WLL; check it before use.
- Conforms to AS 3776 and 100% magnaflux crack tested. Grab hooks and eye sling hooks are also fatigue tested at 1.5 x WLL for 20,000 cycles.
- Grade 100 hooks carry higher WLLs for the same chain size: use them with Grade 100 chain and fittings.

What is the difference between a safety hook and a sling hook?
A safety hook locks closed under load and cannot open by accident. A sling hook has a self-closing latch that keeps the sling in the throat.
What is a grab hook for?
Its narrow throat grips a single chain link, so you can shorten or adjust a chain sling.
Can I mix Grade 80 and Grade 100 parts?
Rate the whole assembly to its weakest part, and match hooks and fittings to the chain grade.
