About the Flat Webbing Lifting Slings

Flat webbing slings spread the load over their full width, so they are kind to timber packs, sheet, pipe and coated or crushable loads on crane truck lifts. They are two-ply polyester with protected eyes, made with an 8:1 safety factor to EN 1492-1 and the performance requirements of AS 1353.1: purple 1,000kg (50mm), green 2,000kg (60mm) and yellow 3,000kg (90mm), 1 to 6m long. Why use a flat webbing sling

A flat sling spreads the load over its full width, so it reduces the force at any one point and is kind to finished, coated or crushable loads such as timber packs, sheet and pipe. Polyester slings mark the load far less than chain. The eye at each end suits a choke, basket or straight lift.

Flat sling capacity by hitch

The WLL on the tag is for a straight vertical lift. A choke cuts it to 80%; a basket doubles it while the legs hang straight, and the wider the angle between the legs, the less it carries.

10 tips for safe lifting with flat slings

Ask before using a lifting arrangement not covered by the capacity chart.
Never use a sling whose WLL tag is missing.
Inspect the sling for damage before each use.
Retire any sling with cut webbing, snags, or heat or chemical damage.
Never tie knots in a webbing sling.
Protect the sling from sharp edges with protective sleeves.
Keep slings away from temperatures above 90°C.
Keep grit and abrasives out of the fibres.

Flat sling or round sling?

A flat sling spreads the load over a wide bearing surface, good for long or crushable loads in a basket hitch. A round sling is more versatile, chokes tighter and can be rotated to spread wear.

What do the flat sling colours mean?

The colour shows the working load limit: purple 1,000kg, green 2,000kg, yellow 3,000kg. The tag states the same rating.

How much can a flat sling lift in a choke?

80% of its WLL: a 2,000kg green sling choked is good for 1,600kg.
