MDC Power M Diamond Blade

What the Power M diamond blade is for

The MDC Power M is a segmented diamond blade from Mungo, distributed by Hobson. Its laser welded diamond segments have an M-shape, which Mungo says gives an extra long life and an ultrafast cutting speed. It is made for angle grinders (grinding machines) and wall chasers, and is used dry, without water cooling. Mungo lists it as oSa certified and complying with the EN 13236 safety standard.

Mungo's applications for it are concrete and reinforced concrete, masonry, natural stone, rock and red bricks, so it is the everyday blade for cutting pavers, besser blocks, bricks, kerbs and slabs with a grinder.

Diamond blade sizes: 125mm and 230mm

Both sizes have the 22.2mm bore that fits standard angle grinders. Match the blade diameter to your grinder and its guard.

What it cuts: Mungo's compatibility chart

Mungo rates each of its blades against common materials as recommended, well suited or suitable. For the Power M:

• •Recommended: reinforced concrete, brick, clinker brick, vertically perforated (cored) brick, and quartz, basalt and porphyry.
• •Well suited: concrete agglomerate, pebble stone plates, concrete tile and ceramic products.
• •Suitable: cement fibre board, aerated concrete (Ytong), granite, terracotta tile and clay tile.
• •Not rated for: marble, sandstone, sand-lime brick, sandware, ceramic tile and facade elements. For ceramic tile use the MDC Cobra or MDC Viper blade.

• •MDC Power M: M-shaped laser welded segments for long life and fast cutting. Concrete, reinforced concrete, brick and hard stone. 125 and 230mm.
• •MDC Laser Beton: laser welded segments for long durability. Concrete, masonry, natural stone and red brick. We carry it in 125mm.
• •MDC Cobra: a persistent blade with high cutting speed and quiet running, recommended for granite, marble and concrete or clay roof tiles.
• •MDC Viper: a superfine blade for a high cutting speed and quiet running, for sandware and ceramics. 125mm only.

Cutting safely with a diamond blade

1. Fit the blade with the grinder unplugged and the guard on.
2. Check the maximum speed marked on the blade is not below the grinder's speed.
3. This is a dry cutting blade: do not run it with water. Let it cut at its own pace and do not force or twist it in the cut.
4. Wear eye, hearing and respiratory protection. Cutting concrete, brick and stone makes crystalline silica dust; use on-tool dust extraction or other controls as Safe Work Australia's free guidance on silica sets out.
5. Clamp or support the work so the cut cannot close on the blade, and stop using a blade with damaged or missing segments.
