DS500 Diamond Blade 230mm

What the DS500 blade is

The DS500 is a diamond cutting blade from Mungo, distributed by Hobson, in one size for 230mm angle grinders. Hobson's Mungo product guide lists it with the Mungo diamond blades, and the label on the blade in Hobson's product photo reads Concrete & Building Materials, 230 x 22.23mm, with the oSa mark and EN 13236.

Unlike the MDC blades, the DS500 is not on Mungo's compatibility chart and Hobson publishes no data sheet for it, so there are no per-material ratings or segment dimensions in the documents we hold. The label in Hobson's photo shows the angle grinder pictogram and the dry and wet cutting symbols; always go by the blade you receive. For a rated choice of material, use the MDC blades below; for anything else, ask us before choosing the DS500.

DS500, Power M or Cobra on a 230mm grinder?

All three come in 230mm for big grinders. Only the Power M and Cobra have ratings on Mungo's compatibility chart:

• •Mungo DS500: labelled for concrete and building materials. No chart ratings or data sheet.
• •MDC Power M: Mungo's recommended blade for reinforced concrete, brick, clinker and cored brick, and natural quartz stone, basalt and porphyry (natural stone only: do not cut engineered stone, including engineered 'quartz'). Not rated for marble, sandstone or ceramic tile. 125 and 230mm.
• •MDC Cobra: Mungo's recommended blade for granite, marble, natural quartz stone, basalt and porphyry, ceramic products and concrete and clay roof tiles; well suited for brick and ceramic tile. 125 and 230mm.
• •MDC Laser Beton (125mm with us) and MDC Viper (125mm only) are for smaller grinders: the Laser Beton for concrete and brick, the Viper for ceramic tiles.

Cutting safely with the DS500

The blade in Hobson's photo is marked with a maximum speed of 80 m/s and 6,650 RPM. Always go by the marking on the blade you receive. The steps below are general good practice for any diamond blade on an angle grinder.

1. Fit the DS500 to a 230mm grinder with the power off, the guard on and the rotation arrow matching the grinder.
2. Its marked maximum speed (6,650 RPM on the blade in Hobson's photo) must not be below the grinder's speed.
3. Let the blade cut at its own pace and do not force, twist or side-load it in the cut. A 230mm grinder has a lot of torque, so keep both hands on it and stand clear of the cut line.
4. Support the slab or block so the cut stays open and offcuts cannot drop mid-cut.
5. Control the silica dust with on-tool extraction or other controls from Safe Work Australia's silica guidance, and wear eye, hearing and respiratory protection.
6. Discard a blade that is cracked, out of round or missing segments.

Natural stone, not engineered stone

Do not cut engineered stone benchtops, panels or slabs (including stone sold as "quartz") with this or any blade: Australia has prohibited the manufacture, supply, processing and installation of engineered stone since 1 July 2024 (Safe Work Australia), and work on existing engineered stone is allowed only under strict controls. For natural stone, Mungo's chart rates the Cobra (and the Power M for quartz, basalt, porphyry and granite); the DS500 has no stone rating.
