About the MPG PRO Grind Grinding Disc
The Mungo MPG Pro Grind is a thick abrasive disc for an angle grinder, for grinding back welds, deburring cut steel, cleaning up a surface before painting or welding, and dressing angles and corners. It comes in 125mm and 230mm, 6.5mm thick with a 22.23mm bore, in boxes of 10, and is free of iron, sulphur and chlorine so it does not contaminate stainless steel. What a grinding disc does
A grinding disc removes material with its face rather than slicing through it. The MPG Pro Grind is a thick (6.5mm) abrasive disc that Mungo makes for deburring, weld cleaning, surface cleaning and dressing angles and corners. On the job that means work such as grinding back welds, taking the sharp edge off cut steel and cleaning up a surface before it is painted or welded.
Mungo lists these features:
- An aggressive, controlled bite with a fast removal rate.
- No signs of fatigue due to a low surface pressure, as Mungo puts it, and an easy way of handling.
- Free of iron, sulphur and chlorine, which prevents contamination of stainless steel.
Grinding disc sizes: 125mm or 230mm
Both discs are 6.5mm thick with a 22.23mm bore, the arbor size on standard angle grinders. Use the 125mm disc on a 125mm grinder and the 230mm disc on a 230mm grinder: fit only a disc the grinder and its guard are made for. Select a row to open that size in the selector.
Grinding disc, cutting disc or diamond disc?
- MPG Pro Grind grinding disc (this page): 6.5mm thick, for grinding, deburring and weld cleaning. Not for cutting.
- MPC Pro Cut cutting discs: thin discs (1.0 to 3.0mm) for cutting. A thin cutting disc is not made for grinding with its face.
- MDG GC-Hard diamond grinding disc: for grinding concrete and hard materials, not metal.
- Diamond blades (MDC Power M, Cobra and others): for cutting concrete, brick and other hard building materials.
How to use a grinding disc safely
- Check the disc fits the grinder: 125mm or 230mm to match the grinder, on the 22.23mm arbor, with the guard fitted and set between you and the disc.
- Check the speed. Hobson's data sheet does not list the disc's maximum operating speed, so read it on the disc or its packaging and make sure it is at least the no-load speed of your grinder.
- Look the disc over before fitting it and do not use one that is cracked, chipped or has been dropped.
- Wear eye and face protection, hearing protection and gloves, and keep sparks away from anything that can catch fire.
- Let the grinder reach full speed before the disc touches the work, then grind with the disc's face at a shallow angle, moving it steadily rather than holding it in one spot.
- Use a grinding disc only for grinding. Switch to a cutting disc to cut.
Grinding stainless steel
Mungo makes the MPG Pro Grind free of iron, sulphur and chlorine to prevent contaminating stainless steel material. Iron picked up from a disc or tool used on mild steel can leave rust spots on stainless, so keep a disc for stainless work and do not swap it back and forth with mild steel.

What is a grinding disc used for?

What size grinding disc fits my angle grinder?
Match the disc to the grinder: a 125mm disc on a 125mm grinder, a 230mm disc on a 230mm grinder. Both MPG Pro Grind discs have the standard 22.23mm bore.
Can I cut with a grinding disc?
No. A grinding disc is made to grind with its face; use a thin cutting disc such as the MPC Pro Cut to cut. Equally, do not grind with the face of a thin cutting disc.
