About the Round Spacer
Nylon round spacers hold a set gap between two parts on a screw or bolt, to stand signs, panels and circuit boards off a wall or chassis, or a bracket off a surface. Natural nylon spacers come in 4.3, 5.3 and 6.4mm bores for M4, M5 and M6 screws, 13 to 25mm long, plus 10mm and 12.2mm bores and a 13mm black UV stable spacer for bigger bolts, in packs of 100 (black, 50). What nylon spacers do
A round spacer is a short nylon tube with a plain (unthreaded) bore. The screw or bolt passes through it, and it holds two parts a set distance apart: a panel, sign or circuit board off a wall or chassis, a bracket off a surface, or a gap between parts on a bolt.
Hobson lists its nylon for protecting surfaces, good electrical insulation and absorbing shocks and vibration, which is why nylon spacers are used to stand electrical and electronic parts off metal and to keep metal parts from rubbing.
How nylon spacers are sized
A spacer is sized bore x outside diameter (OD) x length, in mm. So 5.3 x 12 x 19 is a 5.3mm bore for an M5 screw, 12mm across and 19mm long.
- Bore: a little bigger than the screw so it slides through. Our 4.3, 5.3 and 6.4mm bores match the holes Hobson uses on its M4, M5 and M6 nylon and stainless washers.
- Length: the gap you want between the two parts.
- OD: a bigger OD gives more bearing area on each face.
- Screw length: add the spacer length to the thickness of both parts, plus a nut and washer if you use them.

Natural or black UV stable nylon
- Natural nylon: PA6.6 (nylon 66), which Hobson calls the standard polymer in its nylon range, with good toughness, wear properties and resistance to greases and oils. Its colour can vary from bright white to light grey. Use it indoors.
- Black UV stable nylon: has carbon black added, which Hobson says improves outdoor weathering. Use it outside.
- Hobson's nylon properties sheet gives PA6.6 a working temperature of -30 to +100°C; that is a figure for the material, not a rating of a spacer.
- Nylon absorbs moisture from the air, which makes it less stiff and more impact resistant. Do not clamp a nylon spacer so hard that it crushes.
Fitting nylon spacers
- Pick the bore for the screw size and the length for the gap.
- Choose a screw long enough to pass through both parts and the spacer, with thread to spare for the nut.
- Put the spacer between the two parts and the screw through all three.
- Tighten just enough to hold the parts firmly. A nyloc nut keeps it from loosening without heavy clamping.

No. Round spacers have a plain bore that the screw passes through. Use a nut, or a tapped hole, to hold the screw.
