About the MMS Metal Frame Anchor

The Mungo MMS is a steel frame anchor that Hobson's Mungo guide calls a concrete frame anchor with Pozi drive, for fixing door and window frames and subframes back to concrete and masonry. It is zinc plated carbon steel, size 10, in 70/30, 90/50, 110/70 and 130/90, packs of 100. Hobson publishes no drill size, embedment, edge distance, spacing or loads for it; the guide below covers what Hobson does confirm, what to settle before using them, and the frame fixings and concrete screws that do have published data.

Also called Mungo MMS anchors, Mungo MMS anchors or Mungo MMS FRAM anchors.

Features

  • Metal frame fixing anchor
  • Zinc plated finish (RoHS compliant)
  • Range of anchor lengths (70 to 130mm)
  • Through-fixing design for frames
  • Mungo (Swiss) frame anchor

Applications

  • Fixing door and window frames to concrete and masonry
  • Subframes to masonry (no published installation data, see the guide)

What the Mungo MMS frame anchor is

The MMS is a Mungo anchor for fixing frames back to a wall. Hobson's Mungo product guide lists it as a concrete frame anchor with Pozi drive, in zinc plated carbon steel, and Hobson's product codes give the drive as Pozidriv PZ3. Hobson's photo shows a long steel anchor with the screw head at one end. An all-steel anchor of this kind is commonly used to fix a frame or subframe through to the concrete behind it; for door and window frames, the nylon frame plugs on our frame plug page have published installation data.

On the same page of Hobson's Mungo guide, the MEA drop-in anchors and the MAN ceiling anchor carry the ETA and fire resistance symbols. The MMS carries neither, and none of Hobson's documents gives it installation data or loads.

MMS sizes

Every MMS we carry. Hobson codes each one with a size (10) and two figures in mm, such as 10 x 70/30, and the second figure is 40mm less than the first in every size. Hobson does not define either figure in any document we have, so we make no claim from them: size the anchor from the frame specification. Select a row to open that length.

From our product data and Hobson's descriptions (Z/P MMS FRAM PZ3). Figures as coded by Hobson. Size 10 is Hobson's size; Hobson publishes no drill diameter for it. Packs are the minimum order. Tap a number to show it in the selector above.

Drill size, edge distance, spacing and loads

An anchor is only as good as the conditions behind its numbers: drill diameter and depth, the wall material and its strength, embedment, the distance from an edge, spacing between anchors and the thickness of the wall. For the MMS, Hobson publishes none of these, and no load or approval. So:

  • Do not use the MMS for structural or safety-critical fixings, or anything holding people or loads: Hobson publishes no rating or capacity for it, and those jobs need a rated anchor specified by an engineer or designer.
  • Use it only where the frame maker's or designer's specification names the Mungo MMS, and follow that specification for hole size, depth, edge distance, spacing and wall thickness.
  • Need published installation data? The Mungo nylon frame plugs on our frame plug page and the concrete screws on our concrete screw page have Hobson or Mungo data for drill size, depth and the base materials they suit.

Zinc plated: where it suits

The MMS is zinc plated (RoHS compliant). Hobson's finish comparison rates zinc plating as low corrosion resistance, recommended for indoor and non-corrosive environments, and Hobson's corrosion guide puts zinc plated steel only in enclosed positions in very low and low corrosivity (C1 and C2) zones. For damp, sheltered or exposed positions, or coastal sites, choose a galvanised or stainless fixing: our frame plug page has hot dip galvanised and 316 stainless collar plugs.

MMS, frame plug or concrete screw?

  • MMS metal frame anchor (this page): all-steel Mungo frame anchor, Pozidriv PZ3, size 10 in 70 to 130mm. No published data.
  • Nylon frame plug: Mungo 10mm frame plugs (MB, MBR, MQL) with ETA installation data, on our frame plug page; not every plug on that page has data, so check the one you pick.
  • Concrete screw: screws straight into a drilled hole in concrete or masonry, with published drill sizes and edge and spacing distances.

Before you fit MMS anchors

Hobson's stocklist files the MMS with its hammer-in, knock-in and screw anchors and publishes no installation method, so settle these first:

  1. Get the drill diameter, hole depth and minimum embedment for the MMS from the frame specification.
  2. Check the wall: Hobson's Mungo guide names it a concrete frame anchor. Hobson gives no data for brick, block or hollow masonry.
  3. Set out the fixing points to the edge distance and spacing in that specification, and pack the frame where it needs support.
  4. Drive with a Pozidriv PZ3 bit, as that specification directs.

Questions

What is a Mungo MMS metal frame anchor?

An all-steel Mungo anchor for fixing a frame back to the wall behind it. Hobson's Mungo guide calls it a concrete frame anchor with Pozi drive, zinc plated carbon steel.

What size drill for an MMS frame anchor?

Hobson does not publish one. Size 10 is Hobson's size code, not a confirmed drill diameter. Use the size in the frame specification, or use a frame plug or concrete screw that has published drill sizes.

What does 70/30 mean on an MMS anchor?

They are the two figures in Hobson's code, in mm; the second is 40mm less than the first in every size. Hobson does not define them in any document we have, so size the anchor from the frame specification rather than from these figures.

What are Mungo MMS anchors used for?

For published installation data on door and window frames, use our nylon frame plugs. The MMS is for fixing frames, but Hobson publishes no edge distance, spacing, wall thickness or load for it, so use it only where the frame specification names it and follow that specification.

How much load does an MMS frame anchor hold?

Hobson publishes no load, rating or approval for the MMS, so do not use it for structural or safety-critical fixings or anything holding people or loads. Those need a rated anchor specified by an engineer or designer.

Are MMS anchors OK outside?

They are zinc plated, which Hobson rates low corrosion resistance and recommends for indoor and non-corrosive environments. For damp, exposed or coastal positions, use a galvanised or stainless fixing.
