About the XBolt Vertical Hanger Socket
This socket drives XBolt vertical hangers, the screw-in concrete anchors that take threaded rod for hanging pipes, ducting, cable tray, fire sprinklers and ceilings. It is 13mm across flats with a 1/4 inch drive, blue, in packs of 10, and Hobson names it for the zinc plated XBolt PRO M8/M10 vertical hangers (40 and 55mm) and the XBolt M10 x 38 hanger. It does not fit the 15mm head of the M10/M12 hanger. Choose it above; the guide below covers installing the hangers and which socket to use for the others.

What the XBolt vertical hanger socket is
An XBolt vertical hanger is a one-piece screw type anchor for solid concrete with a hex head and a female thread on top for threaded rod. As it is screwed into a drilled hole it taps its own thread into the concrete, and the rod then screws into the head. Hobson lists the hangers for mechanical, electrical and pipe hangers, ceiling hangers, HVAC, fire sprinklers, cable tray and suspension of mechanical services.
This socket is the tool that drives them. Hobson's hanger sheets give it as "Socket to suit: MXSVSM10, AF = 13mm, 1/4 inch drive", and its Conxtruct product guide lists it as the vertical hanger socket for the M10 XBolt, blue. Hobson recommends a cordless impact driver for these hangers.
Which XBolt hangers this socket drives

XBolt hangers this socket is not listed for
- XBolt PRO M10/M12 x 60 (zinc plated or zinc flake silver): a 15mm hex head per Hobson's sheets, so this 13mm socket does not fit. Use a 15mm socket; Hobson's sheet for it names none.
- XBolt PRO M8/M10 zinc flake silver (40 and 55mm): the same M8/M10 size, but no Hobson sheet we hold gives its head size or names a socket, so we do not list this socket for it.
- XBolt PRO M10 x 40 flange stud: no Hobson document we hold names a socket for it, so we do not list this socket for it.
- Self-drilling rod hangers for steel and timber: these have a 16mm hex and take the 16mm vertical hanger socket on our driver sockets page, not this one.
Installing an XBolt M8/M10 vertical hanger
- Check the concrete thickness, edge distance and spacing against the table above before drilling.
- Drill a 6mm hole with a masonry bit and hammer drill (the ETA for XBolt PRO covers hammer drilled holes only) to the depth for the hanger: the vertical hanger page lists the hole depths.
- Fit this socket to a cordless impact driver (1/4 inch drive), seat it on the hanger head and drive the hanger in until the head sits on the concrete. For the XBolt PRO hangers, do not exceed the 15Nm maximum installation torque on Hobson's sheet.
- Screw the threaded rod into the head.
The socket does not change what a hanger holds
Hobson publishes working and design loads for each hanger only with conditions attached: concrete strength, cracked or non-cracked concrete, embedment, edge distance and spacing. Those values and their conditions are on our vertical hanger pages, not here, and the ETA for the XBolt PRO says anchorages are designed by an engineer experienced in anchorages and concrete. For the zinc plated M8/M10 hangers (40 and 55mm) and the XBolt M10 x 38 hanger, this one: Hobson's sheets name MXSVSM10, 13mm across flats, 1/4 inch drive. The M10/M12 x 60 hanger has a 15mm head, so it needs a 15mm socket.
Is this the same as the 16mm vertical hanger socket?
No. The 16mm socket (MXSVS-SI) is for the self-drilling rod hangers that go into steel and timber. This 13mm socket is for the XBolt hangers that screw into concrete.
What drive does the XBolt hanger socket have?
