About Sand & Cement 20kg

A general purpose mortar of graded sands and cement, blended in set ratios. Just add water. It suits handyman, landscaping and plumbing jobs on a range of surfaces.

One 20kg bag makes about 7.5L of mortar and covers about 1.1m² at 10mm thick. You can build on it after 24 hours.

How to use

  1. Empty what you need into a barrow, mixer or other non-porous tub.
  2. Add about 3.5L of water gradually and mix to a workable consistency. Too much water weakens it.
  3. Trowel it into place: as the bed under a shower base, toilet pan or paver, in brick joints, or over a patch repair.
  4. Once it is touch dry, finish with a clean damp sponge, steel trowel or wooden float.

Storage & safety

Keeps about 6 months from manufacture, sealed, dry and off the ground. Do not use a bag that has gone hard. Wear dust-proof goggles and PVC or rubber gloves. Each 20kg bag is a two-person lift. Storing and handling bagged cement.

Sand & Cement questions

Yes. With the pavers dry, sweep it into the joints and tamp it down, brush off the excess, then wet the area with a light mist. Do not let water pool or it will wash out. You can also mix it wet and trowel it in.

One 20kg bag sets a toilet pan. Cement Australia's guide beds the pan on about 50 to 60mm of mortar, with the pan sitting 10mm above the finished floor, and recommends a licensed plumber.
