About Gap Sand 20kg
A polymer paver sand: a blend of graded fine sands and additives that locks brick and block pavers in place. Once dry it forms a firm but flexible joint that helps keep weeds and insects out and lets the pavers move slightly without cracking.
It is for joints up to 3mm. For wider gaps, use Sand & Cement.

- Topping up existing paving
Not for
- Joints wider than 3mm (use Sand & Cement)
- Grouting: it sets firm, not hard
How to use
- Lay the pavers to the paver maker's instructions, then sweep Gap Sand into the joints with a stiff broom until they are full.
- Run a vibrating compactor or rubber mallet over the whole area so the sand settles and the joints firm up.
- Sweep the surface again, top up any joints and remove all loose sand from the top.
- Wet the whole area with a fine mist. Do not flood it or hose straight into the joints.
- Give it 3 days to bond the pavers. Once the joints are dry and firm, the paving is ready for traffic.
- About 6 months after laying, top up the joints, as the pavers may have settled.
Storage & safety
Keeps about 6 months from manufacture, sealed, dry and off the ground.
- Once a bag is open, use it that day.
- The sand contains crystalline silica: wear dust-proof goggles and gloves, and avoid breathing the dust.

Gap Sand questions
Yes. Gap Sand has an added polymer that binds the sand and helps keep weeds and insects out. Dried Sand, the other paver joint sand, has no additives.
One 20kg bag covers about 3.5m² of brick pavers, or 12m² of 400 × 400 × 50mm pavers, at 3mm joints.
Not within 1 metre of the pool edge, where splashing keeps it wet. Use Sand & Cement there.
It is not a mortar and does not set hard. When wet it goes soft like sticky sand, and firms up again once it dries. Avoid pointing a hose straight into the joints.
