140x22 MexyTech Suprotect engineered composite decking

Engineered to last

Every MexyTech board is sealed in a tough outer shell of Surlyn, the same material that protects a golf ball. The harsh Australian sun can't bleach it, and spills, scuffs and rain stay on the surface instead of soaking in. No oiling, no sanding, no staining, ever: a wash is all it needs to look new.

How a MexyTech deck goes together

Joists at 400 mm

Timber or aluminium joists at 400 mm centres for a home deck, 300 mm for commercial or high traffic, with a full box frame and noggins where the plan calls for them.

Hidden clips

Starter clips on every second joist for the first board, clip B screwed into the middle of each board, clip A on the other joists. Nothing shows on the surface.

Breaker boards and picture frame

Boards run full length into a breaker board or the border, never a butt join. The border finishes the edge and frames the deck.

Fascia

A 140 × 11 fascia in the matching colour wraps the open sides. Allow a few millimetres of expansion on each board and the deck stays flat for years.

Composite decking questions

Use the calculator above. Enter the deck length and width and it lays the deck out in whole 5.4 m boards with breaker boards and a picture frame, then counts the boards, the fixing boxes and the fascia and fills them in for you. As a rough figure, 140 mm boards with a 5 mm gap work out at about 1.3 boards per square metre, offcuts included.

A butt join on a deck opens and closes with the weather and is the first place a composite deck looks tired. A breaker board, laid across the deck between two bays, lets every board run full length into a clean edge. It looks deliberate, it needs no end gap to watch, and it uses the 5.4 m boards efficiently.

Joists at 400 mm centres for a residential deck and 300 mm centres for commercial or high-traffic decks, with a joist or noggin under every breaker board and under the picture frame. The calculator reports the joist lines for your layout; the frame itself is not part of the quote.

One box holds the A clips, B clips, starter clips and screws to fix 10 square metres of decking at 400 mm centres. Allow one box per 10 square metres, and a third more for commercial centres. There is nothing else to buy to fix the boards.

Fascia finishes the open edges of the deck, so most decks take fascia on every side that is not against the house: three sides for a deck against the house, four for a freestanding one. Fascia comes in the same six colours as the boards.

Yes. Each MexyTech board is finished on both faces in a different colour, so the three boards cover all six colours: Teak and Antique, Ashwood and Dark Grey, IPE and Walnut. Pick the face you want up. The fascia and cladding are single-colour and match whichever face you choose.

Any deck gets warm in full Adelaide sun, composite and dark hardwood alike. Lighter colours such as Ashwood and Antique stay noticeably cooler underfoot than dark ones, so for a pool or north-facing deck pick a lighter face.

MexyTech Suprotect is a capped board: the recycled wood and plastic core is wrapped in a co-extruded Surlyn cap, the same polymer used on golf balls, which is what resists fading, staining and scuffing. It never needs oiling, sanding or painting. Like every composite it can be marked by dragging sharp metal across it, so lift furniture rather than drag it.

MexyTech decking has been independently tested by Intertek and rated R10 for slip resistance to DIN 51130. Around a pool, pick a lighter colour and keep the surface free of algae as you would with any decking.

Yes, on a frame that keeps the boards off the surface with room for air and drainage. Many low decks over paving use aluminium joists. Tell us what you are laying over and we will talk through the frame before you order.

The boards are made from 95% recycled material, the timber content is FSC certified, and the finished board is 100% recyclable. It is virtually formaldehyde-free, with Intertek measuring emissions at under 0.02 mg per cubic metre.
