Allmat does. We stock merbau decking, dressed boards, engineered beams, posts, stair treads and mouldings, and bring anything else in the range in from our bulk warehouse. Both are in the range. 90x19 merbau decking gives the classic narrow-board look. 140x19 merbau decking, E4E reeded in our range, covers more of the deck with each board, so there are fewer boards and fixings per square metre. Decking profiles are subject to supply, so we confirm them when we quote, and we are happy to quote the boards with the posts, beams and stair treads so the whole job arrives together.

It depends on the sizes and the quantity, so we confirm timing when we quote. The merbau range is stocked in bulk storage behind the Allmat yard and picked and packed to order. Send the list through and we will come back with pricing and timing, usually the same day.

Solid Select DAR merbau posts in 90x90 (2.4m, 3.0m and 3.6m) and 120x120 (3.6m), and laminated GL13 DAR posts in 90x90 and 115x115 (2.4m to 6.0m) and 140x140 and 190x190 (3.0m to 6.0m). The laminated posts are straighter and more stable than solid timber and come in the bigger sections.

Yes, merbau is a common choice for privacy screens, gates and battens outdoors. Our dressed merbau runs from 42x30 and 66x18 sections up to 140x42 and wider boards. Send us the board size, the gap and the screen dimensions and we will quote the lengths.

Yes, that is its reputation. Merbau is a dense, naturally durable hardwood and one of the most popular outdoor timbers on the Australian market, used for decks, pergolas, posts, screens and stairs. Like any outdoor timber, it lasts best with a coat of decking oil and sensible detailing.

Fresh merbau can leach reddish-brown tannins when it first gets wet, which can mark light-coloured paving and render. It settles down after the early weathering. Pre-oiling helps manage it, which is one reason our engineered GL13 range comes oiled, and it is worth planning for around new paving.

They are glue-laminated (engineered) merbau, built up from laminates and graded for structural use, with the number indicating the stress grade. Laminated sections are straighter and more stable than solid timber and come in sizes solid merbau cannot, up to 420mm deep beams and 190x190 posts in this range.

Timber shorthand. KD is kiln dried. F/J is finger jointed, short lengths joined into long stable ones. DAR is dressed all round, machined smooth on all four faces. E4E is eased four edges, a slight rounding on the edges so they are not sharp. DPR, which you will see on some hardwoods, is dressed with pencil round edges.
