Key things to remember

The essentials from this document in plain words. Check the full document before you rely on a figure.

  • Thin nylon insert lock nut, zinc plated (RoHS compliant), ISO 10511, class 04. Use with class 4.6 bolts.
  • Seven sizes, M10 to M36: M10 1.50mm pitch, 8.5mm high, 16mm spanner; M20 2.50mm pitch, 15.0mm high, 30mm spanner; M36 4.00mm pitch, 26.0mm high, 55mm spanner.
  • The nylon ring inside the top of the nut adds friction that stops the bolt loosening. The torque needed just to turn the nut is called prevailing torque.
  • Rule of thumb: add the prevailing torque to your tightening torque, because it is only friction and does none of the bolt tightening.
  • Prevailing torque varies with the bolt, the lubricant or plating and the temperature, so published charts are only a guide.
  • Do not use impact tools. Install slowly so the nylon ring is not displaced.

Who it helps: Anyone fitting thin Nyloc nuts to class 4.6 bolts who wants the sizes and the right way to tighten them.
