S2 Alloy Steel · S2 Alloy Steel Black
Bit Holder
Insert bit holders with a 1/4 inch hex drive for drills, screw guns and impact drivers: a standard S2 holder and black impaX holders, one with a magnetic collar.
About the Bit Holder
A bit holder takes a 25mm insert bit and adds reach, so you can drive screws in recesses and corners and swap bits quickly in a drill, screw gun or impact driver. There is a 75mm standard S2 steel holder, and black impaX impact holders in 60mm and 75mm with a magnetic collar, all with a 1/4 inch hex drive, in packs of 10. Choose the holder above; the guide below covers which one to use in an impact driver.
Also called insert bit holders, magnetic bit holders or impact bit holders.
Features
- Takes 25 mm insert bits
- Adds reach
- One holder with a magnetic collar
Applications
- Driving screws in recesses and corners
- Quick insert bit changes
- Cordless and impact drivers
What a bit holder does
A bit holder is a short extension with a 1/4 inch hex drive end that goes into the drill, screw gun or impact driver, and a socket at the other end that takes a 25mm insert bit. It adds reach, so you can drive screws in recesses and corners, and lets you change insert bits quickly.
Hobson lists them as insert bit holders in S2 alloy steel with a 1/4 inch drive: the black impaX holders in its Power-TX range and the silver holder in its standard drive bit range.
Which bit holder: impaX, magnetic or standard?
- impaX bit holders (black): part of Hobson's impaX range, which Hobson says is designed for the high impact forces of modern power tools. These are the holders to use in an impact driver, with impaX insert bits.
- Magnetic bit holder: the 75mm impaX holder has a magnetic collar (Hobson lists it as insert bit holder, mag collar). The magnet helps keep the screw on the bit, which saves dropped screws overhead and at full reach.
- Standard bit holder (silver, 75mm): S2 alloy steel from Hobson's standard drive bit range, for drills and screw guns.
- Need a magnet on a holder or bit that does not have one? The magnetic booster in our driver bit range fits over a bit and makes it magnetic.
Bit holders we carry
All three take 25mm insert bits and have a 1/4 inch hex drive. Select a row to open that holder in the selector.
Every bit holder we carry, shortest to longest. Length is the overall length of the holder in mm. Pack is the minimum order quantity. Tap a number to show it in the selector above.
| Holder | Steel | Length | Range | Pack |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| impaX insert bit holder | S2 alloy steel, black | 60mm | impaX impact range | 10 |
| Standard insert bit holder | S2 alloy steel, silver | 75mm | Standard drive bit range | 10 |
| impaX insert bit holder, mag collar | S2 alloy steel, black | 75mm | impaX impact range, magnetic collar | 10 |
Using a bit holder
- Push the hex end of the holder fully into the chuck or quick-change of the drill, screw gun or impact driver.
- Push a 25mm insert bit into the holder: the drive type and size to suit the screw, for example a PH2 bit for a #2 Phillips recess or an SQ2 bit for a #2 square drive.
- In an impact driver, use the black impaX holder with impaX insert bits.
- Follow the screw maker's advice on the tool. For its plasterboard and needle point screws, Hobson specifies a cordless screwdriver rather than an impact driver.

Questions
What is a bit holder used for?
It holds a 25mm insert bit in a drill, screw gun or impact driver. It adds reach and lets you swap insert bits quickly.
Which bit holder should I use in an impact driver?
The black impaX holders. Hobson designs the impaX range for the high impact forces of modern power tools. Use them with impaX insert bits.
Do you have a magnetic bit holder?
Yes. The 75mm impaX holder has a magnetic collar, which helps keep the screw on the bit. For other bits, the magnetic booster in our driver bit range makes a bit magnetic.
What bits fit a bit holder?
25mm insert bits with a 1/4 inch hex shank. We carry Phillips, square, slotted and hex insert bits, including a plasterboard bit, in standard S2, impaX and TitaN.
Is it a quick release bit holder?
Hobson lists these as insert bit holders, one with a magnetic collar, and does not describe a quick release or locking sleeve on them. Call us on 1300 03 03 63 if you need a particular style.
How are bit holders sold?
In packs of 10.
