Key things to remember
The essentials from this guide, at a glance.
- Use 6mm Villaboard for residential and 9mm for commercial applications; it is an internal lining and not suitable as external cladding.
- Sheets have recessed long edges for flush jointing and come in 900mm and 1200mm widths and lengths up to 3600mm.
- Fix to timber with 30x2.8mm galvanised fibre cement nails and to steel with 25mm Hardie Drive screws.
- Timber studs must be at least 38mm wide at joints and steel framing at least 64mm deep x 0.55mm BMT.
- Where sheets are to be tiled, fix with fasteners only; adhesive fixing is only for untiled walls.
- Control joints are required at 9.0m maximum for general walls and ceilings, with horizontal control joints in walls at 3.6m maximum.
