Key things to remember

The essentials from this document in plain words. Check the full document before you rely on a figure.

  • Finish complies with AS 3566.2 Class 3, suitable for ISO 9223 Category 3 environments. Made from SAE 1022 steel.
  • One size: 12 gauge, 11 TPI, 40mm long (36.1mm effective length), 5/16" hex head, pack of 1,000 weighing 7.2kg.
  • Drilling capacity: top hat batten 0.55 to 0.75mm, steel purlin 1.20 to 1.90mm, and timber (pine and hardwood) with 35mm minimum embedment.
  • Characteristic ultimate pullout: 950N in 0.48mm G550 steel, 3,480N in 1.20mm G450, 6,138N in 1.90mm G450; 3,720N in MGP10 pine and 7,140N in F17 hardwood. These are laboratory values, not working loads; the sheet says safety factors should be considered for design.
  • Characteristic tensile strength 15,110N, shear strength 8,310N, torsional strength 13.0 Nm.
  • Install with a 5/16" hex nut setter on a cordless screwdriver at 2,200 to 3,000 RPM, with firm, steady pressure. Do not over-tighten.

Who it helps: Roofers and builders fixing battens and roof sheeting to steel or timber who need characteristic pullout figures.
