Key things to remember
The essentials from this document in plain words. Check the full document before you rely on a figure.
- Part T9PHYRP1420050: 14-20 x 50mm, #3 Phillips countersunk head, packed 500. For fences, chipboard, composite panels and internal timber floors fixed to thick metal.
- The wings ream a clearance hole in the timber and break off once the screw starts drilling the metal. Six ribs under the head let it embed itself in the timber.
- C1022 hardened steel with a zinc yellow passivate finish.
- Working pull-out load from the steel it is fixed into, safety factor 2.5 already included: 2,200N in 3mm G2, 2,700N in 5mm hot rolled steel, 4,950N in 8mm hot rolled steel. Laboratory values; actual loads depend on the base material.
- Not recommended for fixing long lengths of timber directly to steel: movement between timber and steel from thermal expansion, humidity, building settling or overdriving can break the screw.
- Use a #3 Phillips drive bit in a cordless screw gun at 2,200 to 3,000 RPM, with firm, steady pressure while it drills. Do not over-tighten. Impact drivers are not recommended.
Who it helps: Builders fixing timber, chipboard or composite panels to thick steel.
