Key things to remember
The essentials from this document in plain words. Check the full document before you rely on a figure.
- For fixing timber to metal: fences, chipboard, composite panels and timber floors. The wings make a clearance hole in the timber and break off once the screw starts drilling the metal; 6 nibs under the head let it self-embed into timber.
- C1022 hardened steel, Class 3 finish, square #2 drive. Lengths 35, 40, 45, 50 and 60mm (T9PG3RQ1016035 to T9PG3RQ1016060).
- Pull-out working load: 350N in 0.7mm G2 plate, 1,450N in 1.5mm G550 and 2,500N in 2.5mm G450. The working loads already include factors of safety and come from laboratory tests.
- Drill point test: drills 2.0mm G450 plate in 3 seconds on average (4 seconds maximum) at 2,200 RPM under an 18kg load.
- Not recommended for fixing long lengths of timber directly to steel: movement between timber and steel from thermal expansion, humidity, building settling or overdriving can break the screw.
- Install with a cordless screwdriver set at 2,200 to 3,000 RPM, with firm, steady pressure while it drills. Do not over-tighten, and impact drivers are not recommended.
