Key things to remember

The essentials from this document in plain words. Check the full document before you rely on a figure.

  • For plasterboard into steel frame, timber to metal fixing, and light gauge steel frame up to 3mm.
  • Four ribs under the bugle head help countersink the screw into the material.
  • Hardened C1022 steel, Class 3 finish. 14 gauge x 10 TPI, 14mm head, internal hex drive with a 5mm bit (TXDIIHXS50025).
  • Three lengths: 50mm (packs of 500), 75mm and 100mm (packs of 250).
  • Working pull-out load in purlin: 350N in 0.8mm G2, 1,700N in 1.5mm G550, 2,950N in 2.5mm G450 and 3,000N in 3.0mm G2.
  • All pull-out figures are from laboratory tests on Hobson's DRiLLX screws; the working loads already include a factor of safety of 2.5 for steel.
  • Install with a cordless screwdriver at 2,200 to 3,000 RPM, keep firm, steady pressure while it drills, and do not overtighten. Impact drivers are not recommended.

Who it helps: Builders fixing timber battens or lining to light gauge steel framing.
