Key things to remember

The essentials from this document in plain words. Check the full document before you rely on a figure.

  • Metal to metal fixing for prefabricated steel wall frames. The self-drilling tip means no pre-punched holes are needed.
  • Hardened C1022 steel with an e-coat black finish, which reduces friction while driving.
  • Super flat head 9.5mm across and 1.5mm high. 12 gauge x 24 TPI x 18mm, Phillips #2 drive, packs of 1,000 (QFind QB76).
  • Working pull-out load in purlin: 200N in 0.5mm G2, 250N in 0.7mm G2, 500N in 1.1mm G2 and 1,200N in 1.5mm G550.
  • All pull-out figures are from laboratory tests on Hobson's DRiLLX screws; the working loads already include a factor of safety of 2.5 for steel.
  • Drill test: through 1.5mm G550 in 3.5 seconds maximum (3 average) at 2,200 RPM with an 18kg load. Torsional strength 11.3Nm.
  • Install with a cordless screwdriver at 2,200 to 3,000 RPM, keep firm, steady pressure while it drills, and do not overtighten. Impact drivers are not recommended.

Who it helps: Steel frame fabricators who need a low head that sits flat under lining.
