Key things to remember

The essentials from this document in plain words. Check the full document before you rely on a figure.

  • Metal to metal fixing: wall cladding, fencing and gates, sheds, and hinges into metal posts, gates and doors.
  • Hardened C1022 steel with a Class 3 finish. 14 gauge x 14 TPI x 22mm, 5/16 inch hex drive, packs of 1,000 (QFind Q218).
  • Working pull-out load in purlin: 400N in 0.7mm G2, 1,650N in 1.5mm G2, 3,300N in 2.5mm G450 and 3,000N in 3.0mm G2.
  • All pull-out figures are from laboratory tests on Hobson's DRiLLX screws; the working loads already include a factor of safety of 2.5 for steel.
  • Characteristic tensile strength 20,850N, characteristic shear strength 12,500N, torsional strength 16.9Nm.
  • Install with a cordless screwdriver at 2,200 to 3,000 RPM, keep firm, steady pressure while it drills, and do not overtighten. Impact drivers are not recommended.

Who it helps: Fencers, shed builders and fabricators fixing steel to steel with a short 14g tek screw.
