Hobson's two-page performance data sheet for the bi-metal SDS flanged hex head screw, part T6XMXHH1214025. It is a 316 stainless steel screw with a drill point that can drill steel, for marine and corrosive conditions, and the sheet covers size, pullout values, a drill point test, mechanical properties and installation.

What this covers

Key things to remember

The essentials from this document in plain words. Check the full document before you rely on a figure.

  • 12 gauge, 14 TPI, 25mm long, hex head 11mm across with a 5/16 inch drive.
  • Bi-metal 316 stainless steel with an R1500 hours protection finish. Made for marine and corrosive conditions, and suitable for aluminium cladding and framing.
  • Uses: cladding metal sheets, and crest and pan fixing.
  • Working pullout load: 450N in G2 plate 1.2mm, 1,400N in G450 2.0mm and 2,100N in G2 3.0mm. The 2.5 factor of safety for steel is already included; the mean and characteristic loads beside them are test values. All values come from laboratory tests, and real pullout can differ with the base material.
  • Drill point test: under a 18kg load at 2,200 RPM it drills 2.0mm G450 plate in no more than 4 seconds on average (5.5 seconds at most for any one screw).
  • Drive with a cordless screw gun at 2,200 to 3,000 RPM using a hex drive bit, with firm, steady pressure, and do not over-tighten. Impact drivers are not recommended.

Who it helps: Builders and roofers fixing cladding near the coast or in corrosive conditions, including aluminium.
