BDX S500 Flanged Hex Head 12-24 for Steel up to 12mm: Performance Data
Hobson's three-page performance data sheet for the BDX S500 flanged hex head screw, part prefix T9P59FH1224. Its extended drill point and fine thread are made for thick steel, and the sheet covers sizes, pullout values in hot rolled steel, mechanical properties, a drill point test and installation.

Key things to remember
The essentials from this document in plain words. Check the full document before you rely on a figure.
- 12 gauge, 24 TPI, lengths 32, 38, 50, 65, 85 and 100mm, flanged hex head 14.5mm across with a 5/16 inch drive. Drill point 15mm long.
- C1022 hardened steel with the X9 ProteXion coating, which the sheet rates as suitable for ISO 9223 category 4 environments.
- The extended drill point and fine 24 TPI thread let it drill steel up to 12mm thick. Uses: insulated roofing panels to steel, crest fixing on all roofing profiles, metal to metal fixing and metal roofing.
- Working pullout load in hot rolled steel: 1,600N in 3mm and 3,340N in 6, 8 and 12mm. The 2.5 factor of safety for steel is already included; the mean and characteristic loads beside them are test values. All values come from laboratory tests, and real pullout can differ with the base material.
- Drill point test: under a 27kg load at 2,200 RPM it drills 8mm CRS plate in no more than 7 seconds on average (10 seconds at most for any one screw).
- Drive with a cordless screw gun at 2,200 to 3,000 RPM using a hex drive bit, with firm, steady pressure, and do not over-tighten. Impact drivers are not recommended.
Who it helps: Steel fabricators, builders and roofers fixing into thick purlins and hot rolled steel.
