Metal SDS 5/16 inch AF Flanged Hex Head 14-14 x 22: Performance Data
Hobson's three-page performance data sheet for the metal SDS 5/16 inch AF flanged hex head screw, part T9PM9RH1414022. It is a 14 gauge self-drilling screw for steel with a smaller 5/16 inch hex drive, and the sheet covers size, pullout values, mechanical properties, a drill point test and installation.

Key things to remember
The essentials from this document in plain words. Check the full document before you rely on a figure.
- 14 gauge, 14 TPI, 22mm long, flanged hex head 15mm across with a 5/16 inch AF drive. Drill point 7mm long.
- C1022 hardened steel with the X9 ProteXion coating, which the sheet rates as suitable for ISO 9223 category 4 environments.
- Uses: metal to metal fixing, wall cladding, fencing and gates, sheds, hinges into metal posts, gates and doors, and stitching flashings.
- Working pullout load: 350N in G2 steel 0.8mm, 2,250N in G450 2.0mm and 2,950N in G2 3.0mm. The 2.5 factor of safety for steel is already included; the mean and characteristic loads beside them are test values. All values come from laboratory tests, and real pullout can differ with the base material.
- Drill point test: under a 24kg load at 2,200 RPM it drills 2.0mm G450 plate in no more than 3 seconds on average (4 seconds at most for any one screw).
- Drive with a cordless screw gun at 2,200 to 3,000 RPM using a hex drive bit, with firm, steady pressure, and do not over-tighten. Impact drivers are not recommended.
Who it helps: Builders, fabricators and roofers choosing a self-drilling screw for steel, and staff checking sizes or pullout figures.
