Key things to remember

The essentials from this document in plain words. Check the full document before you rely on a figure.

  • Dome head rivets come in series 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8: 2.4mm, 3.2mm, 4.0mm, 4.8mm and 6.3mm diameter. Countersunk rivets are listed in series 4, 5, 6 and 8.
  • Each rivet number covers a grip range, so the same diameter comes in several lengths: pick the number whose grip range covers the job.
  • Example, 4.8mm dome head: rivet 602 grips 0.5mm to 3.2mm (8.3mm long), 604 grips 4.9mm to 6.4mm, 608 grips 9.6mm to 12.7mm.
  • Example, 3.2mm dome head: rivet 402 grips 1.7mm to 3.2mm, 404 grips 4.9mm to 6.4mm, and the longest, 414, grips 19.2mm to 22.2mm.
  • Head diameters for dome heads run from 4.52 to 5.03mm on 2.4mm rivets up to 12.07 to 13.33mm on 6.3mm rivets.

Who it helps: Fabricators and DIY users matching a rivet to the thickness of the materials being joined.
