Applies to Nylon Frame Plug and Nylon Wall Plugs & Screws.
Key things to remember
The essentials from this document in plain words. Check the full document before you rely on a figure.
- For non-structural multiple use in concrete and masonry, such as façade systems. Base materials: cracked or non-cracked concrete C12/15 and up, masonry walls and aerated concrete blocks.
- MB 10: 9.8mm sleeve, 7.3mm screw, lengths 80 to 300mm, drilled at 10mm. Hole depth at least 80mm in concrete and masonry (100mm in AAC); effective depth 70mm (90mm in AAC).
- Screws in zinc plated carbon steel (galvanised over 5μm, blue passivated) or A4/316 stainless steel, with countersunk, hex or hex collar heads.
- Do not hammer drill in hollow brick or aerated concrete. Clean the hole (not needed in hollow brick), push the plug through the fixture until the collar sits on it, then drive the screw until the collar is in contact.
- Concrete C16/20 and up: minimum edge distance and spacing 50mm, minimum member thickness 100mm (70mm edge and spacing in C12/15).
- Recommended tension load in cracked or non-cracked concrete, 70mm effective depth, no influence from edge distance, spacing or splitting: 0.99kN in C16/20 and up, 0.60kN in C12/15. Valid for a group of 3 or more plugs in a cleaned hole, with the ETA material factor and a 1.4 load factor already included.
- Masonry tables give the edge distances, spacing and loads for each brick or block type and strength. For several hollow brick types, shear with a lever arm is not allowed. The document says the data must be checked by an engineer experienced in anchorage work.
Who it helps: Façade installers, builders fixing to concrete or masonry, and engineers checking frame plug loads.
