Chemical Stud Anchors (MCS, MCA): Performance Data
Hobson's seven-page data sheet for chemical stud anchors: studs with nut and washer that are set in resin in a pre-drilled hole, using a glass capsule or an injection adhesive. It covers flat top studs (MCS) and external hex drive studs (MCA), their dimensions and grades, installation parameters and the hole cleaning method.

Key things to remember
The essentials from this document in plain words. Check the full document before you rely on a figure.
- Two head styles: flat top (MCS), and external hex drive (MCA), which can be spun into a glass capsule with a hammer drill. A hex drive comes in each pack of hex drive studs.
- Grades: hot dip galvanised class 5.8 and class 8.8, zinc yellow plated class 5.8, and 316 stainless (A4-70, with A4-50 for M24). Each row lists the stud's minimum ultimate tensile strength, for example M12 x 160 class 5.8 43.8kN, class 8.8 67.4kN, 316 59.0kN.
- Hole size and recommended embedment: M8 10mm hole, 80mm deep; M10 12mm, 90mm; M12 14mm, 110mm; M16 18mm, 125mm; M20 24mm, 170mm; M24 28mm, 210mm.
- Minimum spacing and edge distance: M8 40mm, M10 50mm, M12 60mm, M16 80mm, M20 100mm, M24 120mm. Minimum concrete depth is embedment plus 30mm (at least 100mm) for M8 to M12, and embedment plus two hole diameters for M16 to M24.
- Clean the hole at least to the AEFAC method: blow out from the bottom 3 times, brush 3 times with a brush at least as wide as the hole, then blow out 3 times again.
- Rotate the stud slowly as it goes in so the resin spreads evenly; it should sit at the bottom with resin showing at the top. Do not disturb or load it until the resin has cured.
Who it helps: Builders, engineers and installers setting studs in concrete or masonry with resin.
