TCBOLTS Structural K0 Class 10.9 HRC Assemblies: Data Sheet
Hobson's eight-page data sheet for TCBOLTS structural K0 class 10.9 HRC assemblies: hot dip galvanised tension controlled bolts with matching nuts and washers to EN 14399-10. It covers sizes, dimensions, how to work out bolt length, installation with a TONE shear wrench, mechanical properties, sample quality documents and the shear wrenches to suit.
What this covers
- How the system works
- Sizes
- Bolt, nut and washer dimensions
- Bolt length
- Installation
- Mechanical properties
- Shear wrenches
Key things to remember
The essentials from this document in plain words. Check the full document before you rely on a figure.
- A tension controlled bolt: the TONE shear wrench tightens the nut until the correct preload is reached, then shears off the spline end. One person installs it from one side.
- The assembly table lists M16 to M36 (part KBCT9GCM), in lengths from 40mm to 240mm depending on size. Class 10.9 bolt, class 10 nut, hot dip galvanised.
- Bolt length = grip length plus an added length for the nut, washer and thread past the nut, for example 23mm for M16, 27mm for M20 and 32mm for M24.
- The washer goes under the nut with its chamfer facing away from the steel, and the nut markings face away from the steel.
- Bring every bolt in the joint to snug tight first, with the plates in full contact and no gap, before final tightening. The sheet says correct tension will not be reached if a gap remains.
- Keep assemblies clean and dry and in the carton until used, never add lubricant, and do not use dirty, oily or rusted assemblies: changes to the coating affect the tension achieved.
- Shear wrench models: XT-GH-242EZ for M16 to M24, XT-GV-302EZ for M27 and M30, XT-GX-362EZ for M36, all 240V.
