Hobson data sheet
Class 8.8 Flange Purlin Bolt Assembly (KBFHT): Sizes and Torque Data Sheet
Hobson's one-page product data sheet for its class 8.8 flange purlin bolt assemblies, part series KBFHT. It lists five assemblies in M12 and M16 with bolt and nut dimensions, indicative tightening torque and the resulting bolt tension.
What this covers
- Assembly parts
- Dimensions
- Indicative tightening torque
- Installation reminder
For Purlin Bolt.
Key things to remember
The essentials from this document in plain words. Check the full document before you rely on a figure.
- Each assembly is a property class 8.8 flange bolt and a class 8 flange nut, zinc plated (ZP) or hot dip galvanised (HDG).
- Part numbers: KBFHTGCM120030 (M12 x 30 HDG), KBFHTGCM160045 (M16 x 45 HDG), KBFHTZCM120030 (M12 x 30 ZP), KBFHTZCM160035 (M16 x 35 ZP) and KBFHTZCM160045 (M16 x 45 ZP).
- Indicative tightening torque, M12 (24,450N bolt tension): 73.0 N-m HDG, 64.0 N-m ZP. M16 (45,500N bolt tension): 182.0 N-m HDG, 160.0 N-m ZP.
- The torque figures are a guide only, for use when the engineer or supplier gives no torque. They are worked out from T = P x k x D, with P at 50% of the bolt's proof load and k of 0.22 for zinc plated and 0.25 for galvanised, assuming all bearing surfaces are in full contact. The engineer should confirm the final tension and torque.
- Install square: the base of the head and the base of the nut must sit in full contact with the parts being fastened. Hole sizes to AS 4600 or as the design engineer specifies.
Who it helps: Shed and steel frame builders bolting purlins with high tensile bolts, and staff matching a size and finish.
