Self Drilling Vertical Side Hanger T17 for Timber: Performance Data

Hobson's three-page performance data for the self drilling vertical side hanger T17 for timber, part MVWMSZSM100050. It screws into the side of a timber beam or joist and holds M10 threaded rod (side entry). The sheet gives mechanical properties and design capacities in single shear for seasoned and unseasoned timber.

Key things to remember

The essentials from this document in plain words. Check the full document before you rely on a figure.

  • One size: MVWMSZSM100050 for M10 rod, 14g thread, 50mm screw length, 71mm overall, 16mm hex. Carbon steel, zinc plated (RoHS compliant).
  • Design capacities are calculated to AS 1720.1 (clause 4.3.3.2) for a 50+ year load duration, in single shear, for joint groups J1 to J6 (unseasoned) and JD1 to JD6 (seasoned) and for structural joint categories 1, 2 and 3.
  • Those capacities assume 50mm embedment, at least 32mm edge distance, 63mm end distance and a 63mm thick member.
  • Drive it with a 16mm socket at about 1,500rpm until the body is flush with the timber, then screw the M10 rod in clockwise until fully engaged.
  • Best installed with a cordless impact driver, using the MXSVS-SI socket (1/4 inch drive).

Who it helps: Engineers and services installers designing threaded rod drops off the side of timber members.
