About the Security Recess Plug (Torx)
LB01 recess plugs are hammered into the Torx head of an anchor or screw once it is in, so no driver can grip it, for public seating, signs, bollards, playground and park furniture where fixings must not be undone. They are zinc plated carbon steel, T30 (packs of 100) or T40 (packs of 50); Hobson says they render the fastener tamper proof. What a security recess plug does
Hobson describes the LB01 as an anti-tamper plug that is installed after the anchor or screw is fitted. It is a small six-lobed carbon steel plug shaped to the Torx recess. You install the fastener as normal, then hammer the plug into its Torx drive. The plug seals the recess, so a Torx bit has nothing to grip, which Hobson says renders the fastener tamper proof.
Hobson lists it for fasteners whose heads are accessible to the public, as a means to deter or prevent vandalism and theft: installations in public areas, children's playground equipment, trains and buses, prisons and schools, for builders, carpenters, plumbers and electricians. Hobson's flyer pictures it alongside its T40 Torx washer head Type 17 screw (T9PWTGO range).
Hobson publishes no removal method for the plug, so plan for it to stay in. Where a fixing has to come out for maintenance, a pin Torx, pin hex or snake-eye security drive that the matching bit can undo is the better choice.
Recess plug sizes
Match the plug to the Torx size of the fastener's recess: a T30 plug for a T30 recess, a T40 plug for a T40 recess. Select a row to open that size in the selector.

How to fit a recess plug
- Install the anchor or screw first, fully tightened, with its Torx drive.
- Line the lobes of the plug up with the lobes of the Torx recess.
- Set it with a hammer: Hobson describes it as an easy hammer-set installation. Drive it in until it is seated in the recess.
Zinc plated: what that means outdoors
The plugs are zinc plated (RoHS compliant). Hobson's finish comparison puts zinc plating at about 5 microns with low corrosion resistance, recommended for indoor and non-corrosive environments. Hobson's corrosion guide calls for stainless steel or hot dip galvanising on fixings that are exposed to the weather. On exposed outdoor fixtures, expect the plug finish to weather like any other zinc plated part; ask us if you need a stainless security fixing for an exposed or coastal position.
Recess plug or security screw?
- Recess plug: turns an ordinary Torx anchor or screw into one with no drive to grip. Suits a fixing that should never come out.
- Security screws in 304 stainless: pin Torx, pin hex and snake-eye drives can be undone with the matching bit; one-way screws, like the plug, are meant to stay in.

What is a security recess plug?
A small steel plug shaped like a Torx recess that you hammer into the drive of an anchor or screw after it is installed. It seals the recess so a bit cannot grip it, which Hobson says makes the fastener tamper proof.
