FJ Pine Primed Explained: EziTrim, Pine Trim Plus, Edgeline
You have probably seen the names, EziTrim, Pine Trim Plus, Edgeline, maybe Porta, on skirting and architrave packs. But what are they, and does it matter which one you buy? The short answer: they are all the same product, FJ Pine Primed moulding, and for most jobs the brand on the label matters far less than the profile and size. Here is what FJ Pine Primed actually is, and how the brands compare.
What FJ Pine Primed is
Finger-jointed. Short lengths of radiata pine are joined end to end with interlocking glued "fingers" into long, straight lengths. Breaking up the timber this way makes it straighter and more stable than a single board, which is exactly what you want for paint-grade trim.
Primed. It comes factory primed, an undercoat already applied, so it is ready for your topcoat with only light prep. That saves a coat and a lot of time on site.
Untreated, so internal. FJ Pine Primed is untreated, which means it is for internal use: skirting, architraves, door jambs, lining boards and internal trim. That includes internal wet areas like bathrooms, sealed and painted; what it is not for is outdoor or weather-exposed work.
FJ Pine Primed or MDF?
FJ Pine Primed and MDF are the two common paint-grade options for skirting and architraves, and Allmat supplies both. Neither is simply better; they suit different jobs.
FJ Pine Primed is real timber. It holds nails and screws well, is lighter to handle, cuts without the fine dust of MDF, and, importantly, it does not swell if it gets damp, so it is the better choice for bathrooms, laundries and other humid internal areas, sealed and painted.
MDF is denser and takes the smoothest painted finish, and it is usually a little cheaper. The trade-off is moisture: MDF swells if it gets wet and does not recover, so it is not for wet areas, and its edges split more easily when nailed.
As a rule of thumb: MDF for a dead-flat painted finish on a budget in dry rooms; FJ Pine Primed where you want the durability of timber, better fixing, or any chance of moisture. Tell us the rooms and we will help you pick.
The brands are the same thing with different names
EziTrim Plus, Pine Trim Plus and Edgeline are competing brands of FJ Pine Primed moulding. They come in the same familiar profiles, skirting and architraves, bullnose, colonial, bevel, pencil round, lambs tongue and so on, with only slight differences in size and profile between them. Porta is another name you will come across, known particularly for bespoke profiles.
Edgeline is Woodhouse Timbers’ primed pine moulding brand, and its Edgeline Architectural Range adds heritage and modern profiles. It is the range Allmat uses for a lot of its moulding work.
So the name is not the important part, the use is. Whichever brand your plans specify, or whichever you are used to, it is doing the same job. The differences that actually matter for a build are the profile, the size and the price.
Sizes vary slightly between brands, so a profile that measures 90mm in one range might be 92mm in another. Our guide to timber mouldings and profiles explains the profile names.

FJ Pine Primed is finger-jointed radiata pine that has been dressed and factory primed, ready to paint. Finger-jointing bonds short lengths of pine into long, straight, stable lengths, and the factory primer means it needs only light prep before your topcoat. It is used for internal skirting, architraves, door jambs, lining boards and trim.
Finger-jointing cuts interlocking "fingers" into the ends of short pieces of timber and glues them together into a long length. It uses timber efficiently and, because the natural stresses are broken up along the join, the result is straighter and more stable than a single long board, which is ideal for paint-grade mouldings.
It is untreated, so it is for internal use: skirting, architraves, door jambs, lining and trim. Internal wet areas like bathrooms and laundries are fine, and it copes with them better than MDF because it will not swell if it gets damp, provided it is sealed and painted properly. What it is not for is outdoor or weather-exposed work, which needs a treated or exterior-rated product.
