Particle Board
Standard, moisture resistant and melamine-faced particle board for cabinetry, furniture and shelving, in Adelaide and South Australia.
What is particle board?
Particle board, also called chipboard, is an engineered wood panel made by binding wood particles and chips with resin and pressing them into a flat, dense, even sheet. It is economical, stays flat and machines cleanly, which makes it a mainstay for cabinetry, furniture carcasses, shelving and benchtop substrates.
Allmat distributes particle board in standard and moisture resistant grades, along with melamine-faced whiteboard and ready-edged shelving. The standard sheet is 2400 × 1200, with a range of other sizes and thicknesses. For a structural floor, ask about our particle board flooring, which is a separate, load-bearing grade.

Standard Particle Board
Economical particle board for dry interior use: cabinetry, furniture carcasses, shelving and substrates.
Standard Particle Board
- 2400 × 1200 × 12mm Standard Particle Board
- 2400 × 1200 × 16mm Standard Particle Board
- 2400 × 1200 × 18mm Standard Particle Board
- 2400 × 900 × 18mm Standard Particle Board
- 2700 × 1200 × 18mm Standard Particle Board
- 2700 × 900 × 18mm Standard Particle Board
- 1800 × 1200 × 18mm Standard Particle Board
- 1800 × 900 × 18mm Standard Particle Board
Standard particle board is for dry interior use and is not load-bearing. For a structural floor, ask about particle board flooring.

MR Particle Board (Moisture Resistant)
Moisture resistant particle board for humid areas and benchtop substrates, made with a water resistant resin.
MR Particle Board
- 2400 × 1200 × 16mm MR Particle Board
- 3600 × 1200 × 16mm MR Particle Board
- 2400 × 1200 × 18mm MR Particle Board
- 2400 × 1200 × 33mm MR Particle Board
- 3600 × 900 × 33mm MR Particle Board
- 3600 × 610 × 33mm MR Particle Board
MR particle board resists humidity, but is not for permanent wet or outdoor exposure. The 33mm board suits benchtop and stair substrates.

Melamine Whiteboard
Melamine-faced particle board with a durable, wipe-clean white surface, for cabinetry, robes and shelving. This is the stipple-finish moisture resistant board, faced both sides.
White Stipple (MR)
- 2400 × 1200 × 16mm Melamine Whiteboard MR
- 2700 × 1200 × 16mm Melamine Whiteboard MR
- 3600 × 1200 × 16mm Melamine Whiteboard MR
- 2400 × 1800 × 16mm Melamine Whiteboard MR
- 3600 × 1800 × 16mm Melamine Whiteboard MR
Melamine whiteboard is a moisture resistant board faced both sides. Other finishes on request.

Melamine Shelving
Ready-to-fit white melamine shelving, pre-edged and cut to common widths, including System 32 boards drilled for adjustable cabinet shelving.
White Edged Shelving (MR)
- 1800 × 295 × 16mm White Melamine Edged Shelving
- 1800 × 445 × 16mm White Melamine Edged Shelving
- 1800 × 595 × 16mm White Melamine Edged Shelving
- 2400 × 295 × 16mm White Melamine Edged Shelving
- 2400 × 445 × 16mm White Melamine Edged Shelving
- 2400 × 595 × 16mm White Melamine Edged Shelving
- 3600 × 295 × 16mm White Melamine Edged Shelving
- 3600 × 445 × 16mm White Melamine Edged Shelving
- 3600 × 595 × 16mm White Melamine Edged Shelving
System 32 Shelving
- 1800 × 445 × 16mm White System 32 Edged Shelving
- 2400 × 445 × 16mm White System 32 Edged Shelving
- 2400 × 595 × 16mm White System 32 Edged Shelving
Edged shelving comes pre-finished on the long edges. System 32 boards are drilled to the 32mm cabinet-making standard for adjustable shelves.
Particle Board FAQs
Particle board, also called chipboard, is an engineered wood panel made by binding wood particles and chips with resin and pressing them into a flat, dense, even sheet. It is an economical, stable and flat board that machines cleanly, which makes it a mainstay for cabinetry, furniture carcasses, shelving and benchtop substrates.
Standard particle board is for dry interior use. Moisture resistant (MR) particle board is made with a water resistant resin so it holds up far better to humidity, which makes it the choice for laundries, kitchens and benchtop substrates. Neither is for permanent wet or outdoor exposure.
Standard and MR particle board are non-structural, ideal for cabinetry, furniture and shelving but not for load-bearing work. Structural particle board flooring, the load-bearing tongue-and-groove floor, is a separate product, so ask us about it. For structural sheets use plywood or OSB.
Melamine particle board, or whiteboard, is a particle board faced on both sides with a tough melamine surface, usually white. It is hard-wearing and wipe-clean, and comes ready to use for cabinets, robes and shelving without further finishing.
System 32 is the 32mm standard used in cabinet making. System 32 shelving is pre-drilled with rows of holes spaced 32mm apart, so shelves can be moved on adjustable shelf pins without any measuring or drilling on site.
The standard sheet is 2400 × 1200, with a range of other sizes and thicknesses from 12mm up to 33mm, plus ready-edged shelving in set widths. The sizes we carry are listed above, and we can order in sizes we do not hold.
