MDF
MDF sheets: standard, moisture resistant, VJ lining and veneered, in Adelaide and South Australia.
What is MDF?
MDF, or Medium Density Fibreboard, is an engineered wood panel. Timber is broken down into fine fibres, combined with resin and wax, and pressed into smooth, dense, consistent sheets. Because there is no grain and no knots, it cuts cleanly, machines to a crisp edge and paints beautifully, which is why it is the go-to board for cabinetry, furniture, shelving, wall panelling and painted joinery.
We carry MDF from thin 3mm sheets up to 32mm, in standard and moisture resistant grades, along with primed VJ lining boards, melamine-faced whiteboard and timber-veneered MDF. The standard sheet is 2400 × 1200, with larger and smaller panel sizes across the range.

MDF FAQs
MDF, or Medium Density Fibreboard, is an engineered wood panel made by breaking timber down into fine fibres, combining them with resin, and pressing them into smooth, dense, consistent sheets. With no grain and no knots it cuts cleanly, machines to a crisp edge and paints well, so it is widely used for cabinetry, furniture, shelving, wall panelling and painted joinery.
Standard MDF is for dry interior use. Moisture resistant (MR) MDF, usually dyed green, is made with a water resistant resin so it holds up far better to humidity and the odd splash, which makes it the choice for bathrooms, laundries and kitchens. Neither is for permanent wet or outdoor exposure.
VJ lining boards are primed MDF sheets machined with evenly spaced vertical grooves, so a single sheet reads as a run of individual boards. They are a fast way to get a classic tongue-and-groove look on feature walls and ceilings. VJ100 has grooves every 100mm, VJ150 every 150mm, and Regency is a wider panelled profile.
No. MDF is a non-structural board, ideal for cabinetry, joinery and linings but not for load-bearing or bracing work. For structural sheet jobs use plywood, and for beams use LVL.
Veneered MDF is a flat, stable MDF panel with a real timber veneer face, giving the look of natural timber on a board that stays flat and machines cleanly. We carry it in Meranti, Radiata Pine, Crown Sapele, Tasmanian Blackwood, Tasmanian Oak and Jarrah.
Standard MDF runs from 3mm up to 32mm. The standard sheet is 2400 × 1200, with larger sheets up to 3600 × 1800 and smaller cut sizes across the range. The sizes we carry are listed above, and we can order in sizes we do not hold.
