- Hardie Ceramic Tile Underlay is a 6mm fibre cement sheet measuring 1800x1200mm and weighing about 8.1 kg per square metre.
- The timber floor must not be out of level by more than 1mm over a 1m length before the underlay is fixed.
- Lay sheets in a staggered brick pattern perpendicular to the flooring, offset joins at least 100mm and keep sheet edges 3mm back from walls.
- Hand nail with 25mm x 2.5mm underlay nails, fixing from the centre outwards using the pre-marked pattern and driving fasteners flush.
- Provide movement joints where floor dimensions exceed 5m in one or both directions, at changes of direction and at doorways.
- The underlay is for tiling over timber floors only and must not be used on concrete slabs; use Villaboard Lining for walls.
