The essentials from this guide, at a glance.
- Hardie Tex Base Sheet is a 7.5mm thick pre-primed sheet with two recessed long edges to form concealed set joints, and is coloured blue for identification.
- Standard stud spacing is 600mm for 1200mm wide sheets, reducing in higher wind areas and to 300mm within 1200mm of external corners in categories N6/C4.
- Fasteners sit at 200mm centres generally, tightening to 125mm within 1200mm of external corners in the highest wind category.
- Fix to timber with 2.8 x 30mm fibre cement nails and to 0.5 to 1.6mm BMT steel with 41mm Hardie Drive screws; adhesives must not be used to attach sheets.
- Timber framing must be a minimum of 42mm wide at sheet joints; 35mm timber must not be used at a joint.
- Vertical control joints are required in wall runs over 5.4m, and sheets are butted hard together except at movement joints.
