The essentials from this guide, at a glance.
- Hardie Flex sheet comes in 4.5mm and 6mm thicknesses; Primeline Weatherboard is 9mm and Hardie Plank Weatherboard is 7.5mm.
- At least class 3 external-grade fasteners must be used on all external work, and class 4 within 1km of the coast or in corrosive areas.
- Fix 4.5mm and 6mm Hardie Flex sheets with 2.8 x 30mm fibre cement nails to timber, or 41mm HardieDrive screws to 0.5 to 1.6mm BMT steel.
- Sheet fasteners must sit no less than 12mm from sheet edges and 50mm from corners; 4.5mm sheets must not be used as bracing.
- Install cladding with a minimum 150mm clearance to the ground and keep the underside at least 50mm clear of horizontal flashings.
- Weatherboards use 2.8 x 50mm fibre cement nails, are pre-drilled 20mm from ends, and Hardie external cladding must be painted within 90 days of installation.
