Key things to remember
The essentials from this guide, at a glance.
- HardieFlex eaves lining sheets are 4.5mm thick and factory trimmed to 450, 600 and 750mm widths to suit common eaves overhangs.
- Versilux lining comes in 4.5mm (bevel edge), 6mm and 9mm thicknesses in 1200mm width; use 6mm or 9mm Villaboard or 7.5mm v-grooved HardieGroove for a decorative soffit.
- Framing must be a minimum 38mm thick, and steel base metal thickness must be between 0.55mm and 1.6mm.
- Hand nail 4.5mm and 6mm sheets with 2.8x30mm fibre cement nails, and 9mm sheets with 2.8x40mm nails.
- Locate fasteners no less than 12mm from sheet edges and 50mm from corners, and never use adhesives to fix sheets to the frame.
- Do not fix sheets to the bottom chord of roof trusses; batten out first with battens or furring channels.
