Choosing a socket screw head
All of these take an internal hex key or Torx, so they sit where a spanner will not fit. A Socket Head Cap Screw gives a high, even clamp load from a compact round head, in class 8.8, 10.9 and 12.9 and A2/A4 stainless. A Socket Countersunk Screw pulls flush into a countersunk hole for a clean face (DIN 7991), and a Socket Button Screw has a low dome and wider bearing face (ISO 7380).
Headless Grub Screws (Socket Set Screws) lock a collar, gear or pulley onto a shaft, with cup, knurled cup, dog and flat points. A Socket Shoulder Screw has a ground shoulder that works as a dowel or pivot. For timber, the Countersunk Coach Screw is 316 stainless with a gimlet point and hex drive.
