Key things to remember

The essentials from this document in plain words. Check the full document before you rely on a figure.

  • For mounting solar panels and external roof brackets on steel battens or brackets, through most types of roof cladding. A pre-drilled hole is needed.
  • Supplied assembled: a black EPDM based TPV sealing washer, a 304 stainless washer (ISO 7089 / DIN 125), two hex nuts (DIN 934) and two hex flange nuts with locking serrations (ISO 4161 / DIN 6923).
  • Two sizes: M10 x 200 (MTFERWA2208200) and M10 x 250 (MTFERWA2208250), with an 8mm screw thread and a 14mm hole in the cladding. Packs of 25.
  • Recommended pre-drilled hole: 6.8mm in steel 2 to 5mm thick, 7.0mm in 6mm steel, 7.2mm in 8 and 10mm steel. Maximum setting torque 18Nm.
  • The table gives characteristic pull out and shear resistance for steel 2 to 10mm thick in grades S235, S275 and S355 (for example 3mm S355: 6.50kN pull out). These are characteristic values, meaning 95% of screws exceed them: they are for engineers, not working loads.

Who it helps: Solar installers and roofers fixing panel rails to steel battens or brackets.
