Key things to remember
The essentials from this document in plain words. Check the full document before you rely on a figure.
- For mounting solar panels and external roof brackets on timber framed roofs, through most types of roof cladding. A pre-drilled hole is needed.
- Supplied assembled: a black EPDM based TPV sealing washer and three 304 stainless hex flange nuts with locking serrations (ISO 4161 / DIN 6923). M8 kits also have a flat washer.
- Ten sizes: M8 x 150 and 200, M10 x 160 to 250, M12 x 200 to 400 (parts MTFENW2108150 to MTFENW2112400). All need a 14mm hole in the cladding.
- Suggested pilot hole in timber: M8 4mm softwood, 6mm hardwood. M10 5mm and 7.5mm. M12 6mm and 9mm.
- The capacity table gives characteristic tensile, shear, torsional and yield capacities by size (for example M10, 160mm and longer: 41.72kN tensile, 25.87kN shear). These are characteristic values, meaning 95% of screws exceed them: they are for engineers, not working loads.
Who it helps: Solar installers and roofers fixing panel rails to timber roof framing.
