Mungo MEA Drop-In Anchor for Multiple Use: European Technical Assessment ETA-18/0269

The European Technical Assessment ETA-18/0269 (ETA-Danmark, 3 April 2018) for the Mungo MEA drop-in anchor, a galvanised steel deformation-controlled expansion anchor. It covers M6, M8, M10, M12 and M16, plus the short M8 x 25, M10 x 25, M10 x 30 and M12 x 25, for multiple use in non-structural applications in concrete.

What this covers

  • Intended use and base material
  • Anchor dimensions and materials
  • Setting tools
  • Installation parameters
  • Characteristic tension and shear resistances
  • Fire resistance

Applies to Drop-In Anchor and Drop-In Anchor Setting Tool.

Key things to remember

The essentials from this document in plain words. Check the full document before you rely on a figure.

  • Assessed for multiple use in non-structural applications only, under static and quasi-static loads, in cracked and non-cracked concrete from C20/25 to C50/60, reinforced or unreinforced.
  • Internal dry conditions only: the sleeve and plug are galvanised cold-formed steel.
  • The anchor is set by driving the wedge with the hand or mechanical setting tool; it is properly set when the wedge is fully dropped in. The ETA gives the setting tool dimensions for each size.
  • Drill hole diameter and minimum depth: M6 8mm x 25mm, M8 10mm x 30mm, M10 12mm x 40mm, M12 15mm x 50mm, M16 20mm x 65mm. The short M8 x 25 needs a 10mm hole 25mm deep.
  • Each size has a minimum concrete thickness (100mm to 160mm), minimum edge distance and minimum spacing, with no minus tolerance. An aborted hole means re-drilling at least twice its depth away, unless it is filled with high strength mortar and is not in the direction of a shear or oblique tension load.
  • The tension, shear and fire tables (R30 to R120) are characteristic resistances for engineers, not working loads. Anchorages must be designed by an engineer experienced in anchors and concrete, to EN 1992-4.
  • The assessment assumes an intended working life of 50 years.

Who it helps: Engineers and installers who need the certified basis for drop-in anchors used in multiple, non-structural fixings in concrete.
