Drop-In Anchor, Zinc Yellow Passivate: Performance Data
Hobson's two-page performance data for the zinc yellow passivate drop-in anchor, part MDIMSYCM: a medium duty anchor for concrete that works at shallow embedment. An expansion wedge inside is driven down with a setting tool so the anchor grips the hole, and it can be loaded straight away once correctly installed. The sheet covers sizes, installation data, load performance and the setting tools to suit.

Key things to remember
The essentials from this document in plain words. Check the full document before you rely on a figure.
- Sizes M6 x 25, M8 x 30, M10 x 40, M12 x 50, M16 x 65 and M20 x 80. Carbon steel, zinc yellow passivate.
- Hole diameter and tightening torque: M6 8mm, 4Nm; M8 10mm, 8Nm; M10 12mm, 15Nm; M12 15mm, 35Nm; M16 20mm, 60Nm; M20 25mm, 120Nm. Hole depth equals the anchor length.
- Working load in tension in 32MPa non-cracked concrete (safety factors 2.5 steel and 3.0 concrete included): M6 2.3kN, M8 3.0kN, M10 4.6kN, M12 6.5kN, M16 9.6kN, M20 13.2kN.
- Working load in shear in the same concrete depends on edge distance, for example M12 x 50: 16.8kN at 165mm, 19.2kN at 180mm, 22.5kN at 200mm. Design resistances in the same table already include strength reduction factors (0.60 concrete, 0.80 steel) and are for engineers.
- Minimum edge distance, spacing and concrete thickness by size, for example M12: 165mm edge, 120mm spacing, 130mm thick concrete.
- Use the matching drop-in setting tool: it gives a visual check that the anchor is set correctly. Setting tools MATMSZM are listed for M6 to M20.
Who it helps: Plumbers, electricians, HVAC and ceiling installers hanging services from concrete.
