Clawbolt Stud Anchor (Through Bolt): Performance Data

Hobson's three-page performance data for the Clawbolt stud anchor, a pre-assembled wedge type through bolt for solid concrete. Tightening the nut pulls the tapered end up into the clip, which expands against the side of the hole. The sheet covers finishes, installation data and load tables for the zinc or galvanised and the 316 stainless versions.

What this covers

  • Applications
  • Finishes
  • Installation guide
  • Load performance, zinc and galvanised
  • Load performance, 316 stainless

Key things to remember

The essentials from this document in plain words. Check the full document before you rely on a figure.

  • Carbon steel, mechanically galvanised (with a 304 stainless ring) or zinc yellow passivate; also 316 stainless.
  • Installation data, M6 to M20: for example M12 needs a 12mm hole, 70mm minimum embedment, 50Nm torque, 130mm concrete, 75mm spacing and 100mm edge distance; M16 a 16mm hole, 80mm, 100Nm, 170mm, 100mm and 110mm.
  • Working load in tension, zinc yellow and galvanised, in 32MPa non-cracked concrete (safety factors 2.5 steel and 3.0 concrete included): M12 8.0kN and M16 9.0kN at any of the embedments listed; M20 15.7kN at 90mm up to 19.6kN at 125mm.
  • Working load in tension, 316 stainless, same concrete and factors: M12 10.8kN at 70mm and 12.4kN at 90mm or deeper; M16 13.2kN at 80mm up to 23.2kN at 120mm.
  • Shear working loads depend on embedment and edge distance (for example M12 at 90mm embedment: 8.2kN at 100mm edge, 9.9kN at 120mm or 150mm). Design resistances in the tables include reduction factors (0.60 concrete, 0.80 steel) and are for engineers.
  • Suits light to medium duty loads at standard or reduced embedment, and can be loaded straight away once installed.

Who it helps: Steel fabricators, services installers and builders fixing rails, brackets and frames to concrete.
