XBolt Hex Head Concrete Screw Anchor, Zinc Yellow Passivate: Sizes, Loads and Torque

Hobson's three-page product data sheet for the XBolt hex flange head screw anchor in zinc yellow passivate carbon steel, part MXHMSYM. It lists every size, the installation specification, design and working loads in 32MPa non-cracked concrete, and the maximum installation torque.

What this covers

  • Sizes and part numbers
  • Installation specification
  • Tension loads
  • Shear loads
  • Installation torque

For Concrete Screws (Screw Anchors).

Key things to remember

The essentials from this document in plain words. Check the full document before you rely on a figure.

  • A one-piece screw anchor for solid concrete. It taps its own thread as it is screwed into a drilled hole, suits small spacing and edge distances, takes medium to heavy loads and is fully removable.
  • Sizes M5 to M20: M5 x 30 and 50, M6 x 30 to 100, M8 x 50 to 100, M10 x 60 to 150, M12 x 75 to 150, M16 x 100 and 150, M20 x 150 and 200. The installation and load tables start at M6.
  • Hole diameter equals the anchor size. Minimum embedment: M6 25mm, M8 40mm, M10 50mm, M12 55mm, M16 65mm, M20 90mm. Minimum spacing and edge distance: 40mm (M6, M8) up to 100mm (M20). Wrench size 10mm (M6) to 27mm (M20).
  • Working load in tension in 32MPa non-cracked concrete, with safety factors of 3.0 on concrete and 2.5 on steel already included: from 1.3kN (M6 at 25mm embedment) to 30.7kN (M20 at 130mm). For example M12 at 90mm 13.6kN, M16 at 100mm 15.5kN.
  • Working load in shear, same conditions, rises with edge distance. M12 at 70mm embedment: 3.6kN at 60mm from the edge, 12.6kN at 150mm. M20 at 115mm embedment: 8.8kN at 100mm, 29.2kN at 250mm.
  • Maximum installation torque in 32MPa concrete: M5 10Nm, M6 15Nm, M8 45Nm, M10 55Nm, M12 80Nm, M16 100Nm, M20 140Nm.
  • Listed uses: hand rails, formwork support, mechanical, electrical and pipe brackets, bottom plate fixing into concrete slabs, and pallet racking.

Who it helps: Builders, racking and services installers fixing to concrete, and engineers checking design resistances.
