XBolt PRO Concrete Screw Anchor EXHMSR18M: European Technical Assessment ETA 14/0374

The European Technical Assessment ETA 14/0374, version 4 of 20 July 2023 (issued by IETcc, Madrid), behind Hobson's XBolt PRO concrete screw anchor part EXHMSR18M, with Hobson's cover table of sizes and approvals. It is the engineer's document: product description, intended use, installation and design data.

What this covers

  • Sizes and approvals table
  • Product description
  • Intended use and base material
  • Installation
  • Characteristic resistances
  • Seismic and fire performance

For Concrete Screws (Screw Anchors).

Key things to remember

The essentials from this document in plain words. Check the full document before you rely on a figure.

  • Hobson's cover table covers 17 sizes from M8 x 65 to M14 x 160, all ETA Option 1 (cracked and non-cracked concrete) and assessed for fire.
  • Seismic C1 and C2: the ETA gives seismic performance for the carbon steel screws only, not the bimetal (stainless) version.
  • Minimum embedment: M8 50mm, M10 60mm, M12 75mm, M14 75mm. Seismic embedment (carbon steel): M8 60mm, M10 85mm, M12 105mm, M14 110mm.
  • For reinforced or unreinforced normal weight concrete, strength classes C20/25 to C50/60. Assessed for fire exposure up to 120 minutes and reaction to fire class A1.
  • The ETA covers carbon steel (zinc plated) and bimetal (A4 stainless with a hardened carbon steel tip) versions. Carbon steel is for dry internal conditions; bimetal can also go outdoors where conditions are not particularly aggressive, such as seawater.
  • Hammer drilling only. Once installed the anchor cannot be turned further, and its head must bear on the fixture undamaged. A failed hole needs a new hole at least twice its depth away, unless filled with high strength mortar.
  • Anchorages, including seismic and fire cases, are designed to EN 1992-4. The design figures in the ETA are characteristic values for engineers, not working loads.

Who it helps: Engineers and builders who need the certified basis for a concrete screw anchor in cracked concrete, seismic or fire-exposed fixings.
